Influenced by the impact of social media and the prevalence of the selfie culture, John Galliano directed his attention towards the exploration of the selfie phenomenon in his Spring/Summer 2017 Margiela ‘Artisanal’ collection.

“Reality is veiled in filters and conveyed through symbols. Drawing inspiration from the dynamic selfie filters found on social media apps, garments undergo a process of deconstruction and reconstruction through multiple layers until a final image comes to life,” Maison Margiela’s atelier explained in a statement.

The flamboyant collection, unveiled at Paris Fashion Week, undeniably marked a notable stride forward for Galliano during his tenure at Margiela.
