In the editorial titled “The Meteoric Rise of Nicki Minaj,” the 26-year-old rapper sports vibrant makeup and 70s-inspired dresses styled by Brett Bailey. Addressing comparisons to Lady Gaga, Minaj shares her perspective with Black Book:
“We both embrace the awkward and unconventional,” she says. “What we’re conveying—what I’m conveying, at least—is that it’s okay to be unique. What might seem weird to some could be normal to others. It’s all about perspective. I think it’s an attitude we both share.
